Over the last few months we’ve been approached by a number of sellers looking to launch CBD products into the UK market.
At the time of writing you can buy CBD products on most UK high streets and at the chemists of major UK supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsburys and chains like Boots and Holland and Barrett.
However, Amazon currently does not allow sellers in the UK to launch products containing CBD and limits hemp products primarily to those made with hemp seed.
The official statement on Amazon:
Section 9 (i) : Listings for products containing cannabidiol (CBD) are prohibited, including but not limited to:
- Full spectrum hemp oil
- Rich hemp oil
- Products that have been identified as containing CBD by LegitScript.com
For sellers interested in CBD products for pets, then you may need to wait even longer as it is currently not legal in the UK to market CBD products for pets as it does not come under the jurisdiction of the FSA. According to lawyer Robert Jappie from Mackrell Turner Garrett:
“CBD for pets would need marketing authorisation from the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD).”Robert Jappie – Mackrell Turner Garrett
Some change may occur on Amazon soon! Until then the best bet for Amazon sellers is to keep an eye on UK CBD news and regulations.
